It is vital that a man undergo ritual initiation into the structures of manhood in order to be a fully realized mature and aware male. Men who do not have this opportunity seemingly cannot pull all the facets of themselves together in order to live as a full emotional, physical and spiritual man.
The rites of initiation seem to go back all the way to the Cro-Magnon man who drew cave paintings of man hunting and conquering all types of animals and then performing primeval rituals. Anthropologists agree that these cave paintings were created by men to show young men the mysterious world of male responsibility and masculine spirituality.
According to the psychologist Carl Jung, there is a blueprint inside every male, detailing the positive male persona: an archetype. Since there is an inherent hardwiring in every male, the correction of this “crisis” can be made.
By embodying and displaying these archetypes, the problem can be corrected. However, in the fragmentation of families and prevalence of gangs, etc. the male psyche continues to be stunted in its development.
These archetypes are The King, The Warrior, The Magician and The Lover.

We’ll begin with The King Archetype
The King is the most valued member of the four male mature archetypes. The King archetype, similar to a king in mythological stories, inter-links the other three to each other and possesses all the qualities of a good warrior, lover, and a magician. When one accesses a mature king, they have accessed all the other three archetypes, which explains why the king’s power is felt last in a man’s life. A man’s god-like potential is thus, given by the other archetypes’ crown.
The King’s Characteristics in His Fullness
He is Centered
A man who is living in the fullness of a King archetype experiences a centering power from within. One attains a superior sense of balance from the King’s confidence, well-being, and purpose which makes it possible to remain calm in the face of uncertainties. Such a person has a proactive approach to life and remains unmoved during a crisis. A man who lives in the King’s total energy is a conscious man. Owing to such a man’s central position in all circumstances, he can evaluate the current situation, deduce the meaning, and take a stand on an issue. Due to this central position, a man can remain unmoved by temporary situations.
He is Decisive
The King makes decisions on behalf of the other archetypes. He can make decisions due to the following two factors. Firstly, due to who he is and the reason for his existence; his core values are based on firm principles. He remains unchanged in the face of crisis since his mind is already made concerning his course of action. Secondly, the Kings decisions are founded on experience which confers upon him practical wisdom for doing the right thing at the right time.
The King is of High Integrity
Integrity unifies all the other virtues in a man. Besides the King having linked all the other archetypes, he seeks to attain completion in his life’s other spheres. The king keeps his promises, restores broken relationships, acts honestly, and is accountable for his actions.
The King is Protective of his Realm
Every man has a realm to protect which can be physical, emotional, spiritual, or mental. When one has a full access to the King archetype, they can act accordingly in the protection of their realm, which often involves invoking of the Warrior archetype’s aggressiveness.
The King Provides Order
When one has access to the King archetype, their life and those of the people around them becomes orderly. The King can be seen in us when we are setting the rules to be followed. We set rules to create a conducive environment for other people to prosper and not just to achieve pleasure by having other people obey us. The magician archetype helps us to formulate rules will help people flourish rather than hinder their progress.
A man must live by the archetypes’ principles, besides urging others to do the same for one to fully incorporate the King archetype into their lives.
The King Archetype Creates and Inspires Creativity in Others
The King archetype can be seen to be present in our lives every time we engage in acts of creation including composing songs, procreation, or venturing into business. It is essential that we inspire other people to achieve their full potential so that we can have the King fully integrated into our lives to enable us live purposeful lives.
He Blesses Other People’s Lives
We can become a blessing to other people’s lives by taking note and honoring their achievements. We should never forget that a kind word can have a profound meaning on a youth’s life.
Mentorship is Also a way to Bless Others
Older and wiser members of the society are closer to the King archetype and should thus, guide the youth on their way to maturity.
The King Archetype Leaves a Legacy
Every man desires to leave a legacy. A legacy ought not to be a super achievement and can be anything from a business idea or a relationship that brings a lasting change to a person or the world.
Summary
The King aims at achieving his potential and become a blessing to people by linking the other archetypes and the ethical virtues.
