Let’s examine the word “sell.” The word comes from the Norwegian “selje,” and it means “to serve.” The word “sell,” then comes from the verb “to serve.” So, selling is really serving.  This kind of selling is about serving: it’s not just about selling, not just about jamming a product down someone’s throat.

Selling is an act in completion of a commercial activity. Selling is the way that you help customers to buy products and services from your business. You need to be able to meet the needs of your customers and provide value for money solutions.

The selling process makes up part of the overall marketing process. The selling process involves creating a relationship with customers, identifying the customer’s needs and wants, providing possible solutions that meet their needs and wants and closing the sale. It may also involve ongoing management of the buyer and seller relationship.

Selling is a process by which one person guides other people’s behavior along a path in a desired direction, culminating in the purchase of a product or service.

Selling is NOT a manipulative process.

Selling is to help “clients” solve problems.

The Most Important Principle of Selling Is:

Success in selling is primarily a function of establishing and managing relationships with customers.

To accomplish this you must always be sure you have a positive answer to the question: “what’s in it for me?”
