How to Deal With A Psychic Vampire
So what should you do to make sure the people you hang around with empower and support what you stand for rather than bring you down all of the time?
- Identify when someone is behaving in a way that undermines your energy or exploits you while fulfilling their own needs. There are intentional and non-intentional psychic vampires, namely people who purposefully seek to drain energy from another person to serve their own ends and those who don’t mean harm but connect too strongly with others and drain them without realizing.
- You have the power to choose who you hang around with. Ideally you want happy, vibrant and positive people.
- If you have good friends who are negative and yet you still want to hang around them, make a point of letting them know how you feel – if they are a true friend they will respect you for this. If they are negative from time to time just acknowledge that this is what they are like and block out the negativity.
- The same can be said with family. Your more mature family members have behaviors that have been conditioned for years and years and from different eras. Appreciate where they have come from and as in number 2 above, illicit and select the information that filters through to your brain.
- Know yourself. People most prone to being drained of energy by others are people whose own boundaries are weak or ill-defined, and who tend to be people pleasers, unwilling to say “no” and afraid of ever being seen to let down anyone else.
- Don’t believe that this person has a right to control your life. Power granted to another to control your life will usually be abused. By taking responsibility for your own life and removing the hold that the other person has over you, you will destroy the link that binds you to the psychic vampire.
- Remember, that nothing has meaning in life except the meaning that you give it.
