Objective of this Mental Strength Tip:

To help you use the sacristy of time to motivate you to take action now toward your goals and dreams.

Let’s Get Started:

Too little time and too much to do is a common condition for many of us. Everyday demands or chores seem to engulf the day, leaving little time to pursue those things you enjoy. But you do have choices about how you spend your time. Balancing what you need to do with what you want to do can lead to happiness and success. Many of us complain, “There just isn’t enough time in the day!”

But the truth is that we have enough time to do what is important in our lives. You can always make time for the people you value and for the activities worth doing. All you need do is become a master of how you use your time.

Questions to Uncover Beliefs about Mental Strength Thinking:

  • Is it possible to manage time?
  • What are your best time management strategies?
  • Do you believe it’s possible to use scarcity of time as a motivator?

Unsupportive Beliefs about Time Management

  • My time is managed by other people.
  • Time management is a waste of time.
  • Time at work doesn’t go fast enough and time on the weekend goes too fast to manage.

Mental Strength Beliefs about Time Management

  • Managing activities helps you get the most out of every second you have in a day.
  • I’m grateful for all the time I have.
  • I love my time at work and cherish my time at home.

Outrageous Questions:

  • On a scale 0f 1-9, 9 being best, how good are you at managing your time?
  • What percentage of time during the day to waste on unproductive tasks?
  • What can you do to improve your time management skills?

Reflective Questions:

  • What belief do you have that keeps you from managing your time more effectively?
  • Is it possible to manage your time as well during the workweek as you do the day before you go on vacation?
  • If you could choose a time management mentor who would it be and why?

Mental Strength Coaching:

Spend a few minutes at the beginning of each day to plan your working day and you’ll be able to get more done and be more productive.  Look at where you potentially ‘waste’ time and decide what you can do to change it.

Make sure you’re getting enough breaks during the day.  It’s all very well working hard but how productive is that working time?  If you’re getting tired, you won’t be as effective, take frequent breaks.

In order to make the most effective use of your time you need to make sure that you’re focusing on what’s important. Prioritize your tasks and actions in order of importance or urgency. Ensure you spend most of your time focusing on the important to avoid them becoming urgent later on. Get the high priority tasks done first and break larger tasks down into smaller ones.

Final Thought

Time is a great equalizer. Young or old, male or female, rich or poor, and regardless of education or any other factor, everyone is equal when it comes to time. At midnight every day, kings and beggars alike both receive a credit of 24 hours. Time is an asset like money and we can choose to invest our time, to spend it wisely or to waste it. However, unlike money, time cannot be saved or borrowed.

So if everyone’s account gets the same 24-hour deposit each day, why is it that some people accomplish many great things while other people end up frustrated, behind in their work, and dead on their feet? It’s simply because some people are more skilled at making time their ally rather than their enemy.

If you are frequently frustrated by not having enough hours in the day to do everything you need to, then you are probably not fully aware of where all your time goes. Get a pocket-size spiral notebook and, for one week, keep track of how you spend your time. Every time you change tasks or activities, record the time and what you’re starting to do.
