Know Who You Are For Personal Success

It may seem like knowing you who are is not a difficult thing at all, but the truth is that most people don’t really know who they truly are. Life generally forced us to wear all kinds of masks for social acceptance, but it is quite normal for people to learn to behave in different ways depending on any given situation.

The issue with not knowing who you truly are is that you are never going to be able to find happiness and fulfillment. If you have a distorted perception of who you are, you are going to have a hard time succeeding with anything you do in life.

The following section is going to be what we perceive as “a rude awakening” and it could potentially make you feel upset. The reason why it could be upsetting is that we often hide from certain truths about ourselves and we are likely to get angry, defensive, or even feel offended when those truths come to light.

Being able to overcome that anger and learning from your mistakes is going to be the first step to know who you truly are and to make the necessary changes to become a better version of yourself.

Know Who You Are!

How to learn exactly who you are

  • Identify how you act when you are upset
  • Look at the way you behave when you deal with hardships
  • See how you treat people who can’t do anything for you
  • See how you treat people in need
  • Analyze what you do when no one is looking
  • Take a close look at the kind of entertainment you enjoy

Identify how you act when you are upset

When we are upset, our emotions will usually get the best of us and this is going to reveal our true colors. For example, if we are always trying to pose as calm people, but we get very angry when we are upset and we start yelling and cursing, this is a clear indicator that our true self is not emotionally stable.

A person that is upset is always going to reveal their most honest feelings and their true personality will come out even if they try to keep it under control and hidden behind a mask.

Look at the way you behave when you deal with hardships

People can behave a certain way when they have no real conflict in their lives and when everything is going well. If you want to learn more about who you are, you need to see how you deal with hardships and difficult situations in life.

If you find yourself getting angry and running away from those situations, you will know that you are not emotionally prepared to handle many aspects of life. This is a good revelation because it allows you to start evolving and improving. We can’t become better if we can’t identify our biggest flaws.

See how you treat people who can’t do anything for you

It’s easy to learn a lot about a person when you see how they treat others. It’s even easier to do this when you see how they treat people who can’t do anything for them.

For example, the high-level executive that treats the new employee at the copy machine with respect is someone who is genuine and does not treat people in a way that is determined by their status.

In contrast, if someone treats the copy machine employee as if they are beneath them and they ignore their existence, they are clearly showing that they only care about being nice to those that can help them climb their way to the top.

See how you treat people in need

If you feel that people in need are a burden and they should not bother you, this may be a good time to reevaluate who you want to be. Some people are not in need due to lack of efforts to become better. Some people have been dealt bad hands in life and they could use a helping hand.

If you always treat people in need like they are in your way, you are probably going to have to do some soul searching to climb out of the clouds and back to the real world. With that said, this article is not about criticizing who you are, but about learning who you are so that you can evaluate what you may need to improve about yourself.

Analyze what you do when no one is looking

If you are the type that likes to sing show tunes while no one is watching, but you are a very serious and quiet person in front of others, you can be sure that your true nature is playful and full of life, but you prefer to wear a mask that shields you from the outside world.

There are many reasons why this happens, but the biggest problem is that people feel that showing their true self can sometimes make them victims of opportunistic individuals.

Take a close look at the kind of entertainment you enjoy

Some people love horror movies and violent movies, while others prefer drama or comedy. The kind of entertainment you like is a good indicator of some aspects of your personality.

Why is it important to know yourself?

Those who can look in the mirror and see who they truly are will be the only ones to successfully improve themselves. You can’t expect to improve any aspect of your personality if you are analyzing your feelings and your mindset while you wearing a mask.

Final thoughts

You will finally become a better version of yourself once all the masks are on the floor and you finally get to see your true face in the mirror. This is a process that requires time and dedication, but mostly courage – the courage to face your inner demons and to stare at the most primal version of yourself without fear of what you will find.

Are you ready to find out who you truly are in order to become who you truly want to be?

You are your biggest supporter.
