Are You Impeccable With Your Word?

In his book, The Four Agreements, author Miguel Ruiz looks at living your life with an emphasis on peace and happiness. The first of the principles Ruiz explores is the code of conduct in your life, Be Impeccable with your Word. This might seem simple, but it is harder than you imagined.

On the surface, it is very simple. But there are a number of profound and subtle aspects you need to keep in mind when you do this. To adhere to it, you must keep the commitments you make to yourself and others at all times. When you give your Word, you must adhere to it and take it in a direction of truth and love.

This isn’t a simple process for most people.

This practice becomes incredibly complicated, when situations become tougher. Let’s look at an example. Imagine your best friend in the world was head over heels for their spouse. You find out the spouse is cheating on the spouse. In the spirit of truth, you must tell this friend that the partner is cheating on them.

Delivering this message, along with the facts won’t be easy for you to do. In fact, you aren’t going to be delivering a kind or loving message to the person. It is also not considered polite to inject yourself in the relationship of other people. In a case like this, you are faced with a situation where your word could technically go either way.

In this case, you can take the meaning of being impeccable with your Word and manipulate it to fit your agenda.

With that in mind, it’s pointless to split hairs on how to be impeccable with your Word, if you can hem and haw with the definition. Different situations will always have their variables and it isn’t practical to address each situation here.

So what should it mean when you claim you are impeccable with your word?

When you make a commitment, do you keep it? Or do you come up with a million excuses on why you can’t?

Let’s take a moment to touch on something that must be addressed. When you make an expression of your word, it is more than just what you are saying.

There are two different ways to look at this. When you use a word, this is nothing more than the sentences and phrases you use in communication. It is lowercase and you are literally giving people words to decipher and make meaning of it.

When you give your Word to someone, it is different. The uppercase variation is something you are truly giving them. It is a statement of fact, an expression full of emotion, attitude all delivered together in an act of faith.

Words are also a combination of emotions. When you generate emotions with the words, you add a new dynamic to the words offered. This allows you to deliver the emotion to another person and to give your words a greater depth.

What you can do with these words is limitless. With them you can create an income, generate faith in others, or even boost the image people have of you. All it takes is a little bit of hope and faith on your part.

During the day, you express yourself in a number of ways.

When you are impeccable with your Word, it means something a little more.

Your Fears go against your Self

When you live with existing fear in your mind, it means you are living in an impeccable manner. As you maintain fears, you are not loving yourself. There is the fear of failing, fear of asking someone out that prevent you from achieving happiness. In these cases, you are doing more harm than good, because you are giving into the fear of your heart and not living your life as you should.

To be impeccable with your word, isn’t as simple as it seems. But when you begin to look deeper into the agreement and expand on it, you do have the chance to become successful. As you pay close attention to the smaller amounts of items, you are able to live your life as you truly should.

This is beyond subtle expressions and embracing the challenges of life. In fact, the moment you look deeper within your soul and realize what this truly means and you grasp the emotions, attitude and actions, you have a powerful thing no one can take from you. But it does mean you are mindful of your actions, especially when it comes to your Word.

In order to be successful, you must have constant vigilance as you remain impeccable to your word. It is not something you wake up one morning and go, and have it mastered by the end of the day. It is a discipline which requires a great deal of time for you to accomplish. Once you do, you’ll have something you can always rely on and have people know you are someone whose Word holds value.

There are so many incredible rewards associated with this, it is something you must adhere to. Remember, you can have your word be something and have others put faith and value in it. Or you can toss it all away and make no attempt to make something of your Word. The choice is up to you and each action you make and attempt at forming value to your word you make, the greater the impact is.

Above all, remember to stick to the commitments you make and do your best each and every day to maintain those commitments. When you do this and avoid judging yourself and others in the process, you will become successful in all of your others. It will take time and effort on your part to make this happen, but it will always be worth it in the end.
