4 Ways Meditation Adds Value to your Life

What is meditation and where did it come from? meditation

Meditation is a Buddhist practice where people go through a spiritual discipline to gain full enlightenment. It was originated in India but was popularized in China during the Eastern Han Dynasty.

Meditation has been practiced for a long time and has never lost its spotlight. More and more people are finding the benefits of meditation and have included it on their everyday habit.

Four Reasons Why You Should Start Meditation Now

  1. Gives clarity of mind

Have you been under a lot of stress and pressure lately?

Are you overwhelmed with problems that you feel your brain is about to explode?

Can’t think clearly because of so many things bugging your head?

Try doing some meditation to give your mind some peace and clarity. It has been proven over time that meditation gives you a crystal-clear clarity of mind.

While sleep can put your mind to rest and induces a calming effect, meditation also replicates the same effect as sleep does. Our oxygen level goes down by 10 to 20 percent while we are meditating. Lower oxygen level results to a feeling of calmness and when we are calm, we think clearly.

Meditating is also a way of increasing your body’s energy level. It boosts your mood and clear away the feeling of blues and depression. When you are happy, you are more focused and make better decisions.

  1. Meditation relieves overall stress

Meditation allows us to put our mind in a state of mindfulness.

Mindfulness is putting you in the present state, eliminating all the worries and over-thinking of the “what-ifs”. It allows you to focus on what’s happening right now, instead of worrying the things in the future.

Meditation that promotes mindfulness has been practiced to reduce anxiety, stress, depression and other negative feelings.

Whenever you are in a stressful situation, do this mindfulness exercise:

  1. Sit down comfortably and focus on your breathing. Concentrate on the whole process of breathing.
  2. Once you were able to narrow down your concentration, widen your focus by having awareness to the sensations, sounds and your ideas.
  3. Fully acknowledge and embrace each thoughts and sensations. When you feel that you’re wandering off, go back to focusing on your breathing.

This whole exercise will tremendously lower down your overall stress level.

  1. Sharpens the mind and consciousness

Can a 30-minute daily meditation improve your mental capacity?

The answer is yes.

Meditation does not only put you in a state of calmness, but it also improves and sharpens your mind.

When we meditate, there is a decrease in beta waves which is an indication that information is processed better by our brains. No wonder we can think clearly and focus more after a few minutes of meditation.

Meditation gives us better memory. People that practice meditation are able to adjust their brain wave more quickly than those who don’t. Brain waves are responsible for screening out distractions such as noise. This results to better productivity and an improvement in rapid memory recall.

Meditation allows us to be in tune with our breathing, our body parts and the noises around us. This sharpens our overall consciousness.

  1. Lower your risk of disease & you become healthier

We value our health so much that we eat healthy foods and have a regular exercise. Despite our busy schedules, we find time to squeeze our daily dose of physical activities. We use tools such as NordicTrack Ellipticals to maximize our workout.

Having a healthy diet and a regular exercise are great, but if you want to have a healthy body and a sound mind, you would want to add meditation to your lifestyle.

Meditation increases our heart and breathing rate and improves blood pressure. It also lowers your risk of stroke, heart disease and cancer. It increases our energy level and improves our immune system. It lessens brain and heart problems, asthma, inflammatory diseases, menopausal and premenstrual syndrome. It also increases our longevity.

The benefits of meditation in our life are simply wonderful. Allot at least 30 minutes of your time every day to clear out all the worries and focus on your meditation. You’ll be surprised at how lively and calm you feel afterwards.

You are your biggest supporter.
