Objective of this Mental Strength Tip:

To help you understand the difference between the way top achievers and the average achievers build, nurture and utilize their network of contacts.

Let’s Get Started:

There is an old saying: “It’s not what you know; it’s who you know.” Being well connected is the ultimate source of personal effectiveness and advantage. It is shared success, where what you can give is as important as what you can get from your personal networking.

There is significant importance in having a healthy network for the manifestation of your personal goals and personal success.

The average achiever tends to view their network as a Christmas card list, while the top achiever builds a network for influential friends and supporters.

Questions to Uncover Beliefs about Mental Strength Thinking:

  • Do you believe building a network of important contacts is critical to the achievement of your personal goals and personal success?
  • Why don’t most people invest more time cultivating key relationships?
  • Can the importance of key contacts be overstated, or are they really that important?

Unsupportive Beliefs about Networking and Contacts:

  • I don’t need a large list of contacts to achieve my personal success.
  • I don’t have time to build a strong network.
  • I don’t have enough credibility to build a personal success network.

Mental Strength Beliefs about Networking and Contacts:

  • Building relationships is the key to personal success.
  • The only thing that stands between where I am and where I want to be is the help and support of enough other successful people.
  • The bigger my success network the more and more leverage I have.

Outrageous Questions:

  • How many people do you have in your success network who will return your phone calls or e-mails?
  • How many top achievers do you in your network?
  • Whom are you actively pursuing to add to your success network?

Reflective Questions:

  • What action steps could you take in the next ninety days to build your success network?
  • Have you created a “dream team” list for your network?
  • What individual could help you the most in helping you reach your personal goals and achieve your personal success?
    • Are you actively pursuing this person to add to your network?

Mental Strength Coaching:

Remember that most people think a network is an address book or Rolodex.

My job here as your virtual mental strength and success coach to get you to start building a database loaded with top achievers and keep the database full of  active contacts.

Building a mental strength success network and you have altered your future.

Achieving lasting personal success is never done alone.  Everyone needs other people to encourage, assist and mentor them in their quest for their personal goals.

Final Thought:

A personal network is a set of human contacts known to an individual, with whom that individual would expect to interact at intervals to support a given set of activities.

Personal networks are intended to be mutually beneficial–extending the concept of teamwork beyond the immediate peer group. The term is usually encountered in the workplace, though it could apply equally to other pursuits outside work.

Personal networking is the practice of developing and maintaining a personal network, which is usually undertaken over an extended period.

Personal networking is often encouraged by large organizations, in the hope of improving productivity, and so a number of tools exist to support the maintenance of networks. Many of these tools are IT-based, and use Web 2.0 technologies.

Care should be taken not to confuse a personal network with a Personal area network.

“It isn’t just what you know, and it isn’t just who you know. It’s actually who you know, who knows you, and what you do for a living.” – Bob Burg
