Mental Strength Tip #48 – Fail Forward For Personal Success

Welcome back to another Mental Strength Tip!Personal Success

Achieving personal success and reaching your personal goals begins with a mental strength mindset of empowering beliefs.  Reaching your peak potential starts in your mind…and finishes with taking inspired and massive action.

This is one in a series of virtual life coaching tips to help start your week of strong so that you can reach your personal goals and personal success.

I take one subject and run though a brief overview of it, then ask some very direct questions.  The intention of this virtual ‘life coaching’ session is for you to write the questions in your success journal and then reflect on them and write your answers and thoughts in your journal.

These series of posts are for YOU!  If I’m not able to coach you personally one-on-one over the phone or in The 2nd Passage, I want you to at least get the benefit of a “virtual” mental strength coaching session.

Enjoy!

Objective of this Mental Strength Tip:

To help you build the belief that every top achiever has “failed” many more times than they have succeeded.  By the end of this virtual session I hope to persuade you that the average person’s obsession with thinking about security and “not falling” keeps them fixed in mediocrity.

Let’s Get Started:

There is a distinction in thinking between the average person as it relates to how they perceive the concept of failure.  This session is to help you build the mental strength to understand that the average person is programmed to seek out security, which is what keeps them locked in the fear of failing and limits their personal success.

One the other side, top achievers believe that there is no failure…only feedback, and they cannot fail, they can only learn and grow, and the best thing to do is fail forward fast.

Questions to Uncover Beliefs about Mental Strength Thinking:

  • What does the concept of failure mean to you?
  • What effect would doubling your failure rate have on you?
  • What were you taught about failure as a child?

Unsupportive Beliefs about Failure

  • Failure equals pain.
  • Only losers fail.
  • If I play it safe I’ll avoid failure.
  • Don’t try something unless you know it perfectly

Mental Strength Beliefs about Failure

  • There is no failure, only feedback, I can only learn and grow from every event.
  • Failure enables me to start over more intelligently.
  • Avoiding failure attracts more failure.
  • Trying not to fail only keeps me in mediocrity.

Outrageous Questions:

  • If you were more willing to risk failure, would you achieve more personal success?
  • What would happen if set a personal goal to double your failure rate?
  • Are your beliefs about failure more inline with the average person or that of top achievers?

Reflective Questions:

  • On a scale of 1 to 9, 9 being totally courageous, how afraid of failure are you?
  • What evidence can you show to prove this?
  • What would it take for you to become a fearless and confident person committed to their personal success and personal goals?

Mental Strength Coaching:

There are many benefits of transcending fear, especially when it comes to your personal success.  Fear not only limits your level of personal success, but is also is the primary cause for burnout. Living in fear consumes a tremendous amount of mental, physical, emotional and spiritual energy.

Fear is the main reason most average people never break out of their rut.  Many say that they are afraid of failing; when in actuality they are afraid of success.  You see, by not taking action they are automatically failing.

Final Thought

Remember that whatever level of fear you are operating under is only the conditioning of years of unconsciousness programming.  Taking the average persona from fearful to courageous is extremely possible. This is where a mental strength coach comes in.  Without a good life coach, the transition from fearful to courageous may take many years, if at all.

If you’re going to practice this on your own look at taking small steps that produce incremental gains.  Allow for the magic of momentum to assist with the process.  Any gains you make in this mental strength area are significant considering the number of fear-based beliefs the average person has.
