Objective of this Mental Strength Tip:

To help you understand that self-respect is one the pillars that support and sustains mental strength habits, actions and behaviors

Let’s Get Started:

Self respect is one of 2 main ingredients to self-esteem. Self confidence is the other ingredient. Self esteem is more than just liking or feeling good about your self. It’s being confident in your abilities to cope with life’s pitfalls and believing in your worthiness to have love, success and happiness.

Questions to Uncover Beliefs about Mental Strength Thinking:

  • Where do you believe self-respect comes from?
  • How important is self-respect achieving personal success?
  • Is there any relation between self-respect and happiness?

Unsupportive Beliefs about Self Respect

  • High self-respect equals conceit.
  • High self-respect turns people off.
  • High self-respect equals a big ego.

Mental Strength Beliefs about Self Respect

  • Self respect is the reputation we have about ourselves.
  • Self respect is critical in exceeding our human potential.
  • Self respect is crucial for personal success and happiness.

Outrageous Questions:

  • How much do you respect yourself?
  • Why do you respect yourself?
  • What adds to and subtracts from your self-respect?

Reflective Questions:

  • On a scale of 1-9, 9 being the highest, how much self-respect do you have?
  • What actions can you take to raise your level of respect for yourself?
  • How much respect do the people you hang around most have for themselves?

Mental Strength Coaching:

Self respect is feeling you are of value. Believing you have a right or worthiness to love, success, happiness. Of deserving to have your needs and desires met. It does NOT mean you feel your rights or desires take precedent over others, but that others needs don’t take precedent over yours.

Here are some attributes you probably have if you have healthy self-respect:

  • You have a realistic, not negative and not inflated, concept of yourself
  • You accept your rights and responsibilities
  • You stand up for yourself.
  • You respect others and their rights.
  • You feel connected to others.

Final Thought

Coaching around self-respect is more about creating an atmosphere of introspection..

By asking yourself the above questions, sitting quietly, listening for the answer and then journaling about the you’ll get a better sense of how hunch self-respect you truly have.
