Mental Strength Habits Of A Purpose Focused Man – Part VI

Welcome back the continuation of this series entitled “Mental Strength Habits Of A Purpose Focused Man”

We’ve been breaking down 21 mental strength habits, one by one, of men with a purpose driven life.  These habits are in 5 categories; mental, physical, emotional, spiritual and finances.

If this is your first time here the link back to “Mental Strength Habits Of A Purpose Focused Man – Part I.

I feel I need to state my position again about “mid-life crisis” for men…there is none…well generally speaking.

What I think a “mid-life crisis” for men is, is a lack of focus and purpose.  When we lose our purpose, we lose our focus.  When we lose our focus we feel lost.  And many men in this so-called mid-life crises attempt to find themselves in unproductive behaviors.

My main point of these posts and my private intensive, The 2nd Passage, is to help men realize that they do have a mission and purpose in life.  And once they find it they can live a life of power, purpose, passion and perseverance!

My hope is that through these series of posts and The 2nd Passage Intensive, I will help men who, admittedly or not, are experiencing a mid-life emptiness and guide them back to manhood and step into their masculinity…without becoming a jerk.

In the last post we finished the mental habits, so now we’re going to take a look at the emotional habits of a highly focused purpose driven man.

Confronting and Conquering Fears

            Purpose Focused Man

  • They face every-day fears, uncertainty and doubt head-on.
  • They see their fears as a weakness they cannot tolerate (this excludes jackass type stunts) and conquer with mental strength.
  • A crisis enables a higher the purpose driven man to discover the higher power within himself.
  • Every problem is an opportunity for growth and self-mastery.
  • There is no failure, only feedback, so there is no fear of failing.
  • Every fear is an opportunity to conquer and develop more mental strength
  • His motto is “There is nothing in life to be feared, only understood” – Madame Curie
  • Every fear, pain, stumble, “failure” etc is an opportunity to grow and a purpose driven man looks for the learning in every experience.
  • Daring in games that require skill not luck.

A man with a purpose driven life understands that as he moves towards his vision he will face obstacles, some easy, some more difficult.  But to him it doesn’t matter.  He takes on the challenge of them all with courage and determination.  Never backing down, he knows that there are no real failures in life.

Every experience produces a result and through that result there is a learning that he can use to continue to move forward towards his vision

He looks forward to developing more mental strength through life’s challenges.

He see’s life as an adventure, and with each adventure there are learning’s.  Because of this he doesn’t know the feeling of “fear of failing.”

No Purpose, Unfocused Man

  • Put weights of all kinds around their neck everyday and attempt to swim up-stream.
  • Exaggerate stories about an event.
  • Complains about, blames soothing for, or justifies their fears.
  • Daring in games that require chance.

A man unfocused with no purpose in life see’s life as a battle to be either won or lost.  Because of this he avoids opportunities for fear of failing.  He has bought into his own self-imposed limitations.

To make himself appear like he’s “out there” he exaggerates his encounters, creating the appearance that his is either the victor or the situation was too big and too dangerous to attempt.

A man without a purpose driven life tends to play the victim, he blames, complains or justifies his lack of results or his failures.

Because if believes he lacks specific skills to “win” he participates in games of chance instead of games of skills.

He travels through life afraid of being found out, afraid being perceived as a failure so he doesn’t attempt anything big, never realizing that by playing it small he is falling.

Self Assessment

OK…looking at the above mental strength emotional characteristic for a man with a purpose driven life, take the below survey and see how well you’re doing… and please have the courage to be honest with yourself.

Confronting and Conquering Fears: The habit of challenging and tackling “head on” subtle fears, everyday doubts, and self-imposed limitations that hold one back from realizing an ultimate level of enjoyment and success.

1                            2                            3                            4                            5
