Welcome back the continuation of this series entitled “Mental Strength Habits Of A Purpose Focused Man”

We’ve been breaking down 21 mental strength habits of a purposed focused man one. A man with a purpose driven life exhibits specific qualities in 5 areas of his life, these area are:

  • Mental
  • Physical
  • Emotional
  • Financial
  • Spiritual

If this is your first time here the link back to “Mental Strength Habits Of A Purpose Focused Man – Part I.

By the way…there is no “mid-life crisis” for men…generally speaking.

I believe this “mid-life crisis” for men is, is just a lack of focus and purpose.  When men lose their purpose, they also lose our focus.  When they lose their focus they feel lost.  And many men attempt to find themselves in unproductive behaviors.

My purpose of these posts and my private intensive, The 2nd Passage, is to help men realize that they do have a mission and purpose in life.  And once they find it they can live a life of power, purpose, passion and perseverance!

My hope is that through these series of posts and The 2nd Passage Intensive, I will help men who, admittedly or not, are experiencing a mid-life emptiness and guide them back to manhood and step into their masculinity…without becoming a jerk.

We’ve already covered the mental qualities and well into the emotional habits of a highly focused purpose driven man.  Here is the next emotional habit:

Constructive Criticism

Purpose Focused Man

  • Takes constructive feedback openly with a sense of “how can I use this to improve?” with any emotional attachment or ego bruising.
  • Realizes there is always room for improvement and uses the feedback as a way to maximize their potential.
  • Measures the feedback against their strength’s and weakness and develops a plan of action for growth.
  • Has sense of control and can change himself with the help of feedback,

A man with a purposed focused life understands the value in constructive criticism, no matter where and from whom it comes from.

He understand that in every feedback there is a grain of “truth” and this truth can lead to personal growth and development that will help him achieve his personal goals and achieve personal success.

A purpose focused man knows without feedback personal growth is limited and he seeks personal growth and personal development through constructive criticism.

He will actually seek out constructive criticism and feedback so that he can grow and reach his desired personal goals and personal success.

No Purpose, Unfocused Man

  • Views constructive criticism as threatening.
  • Responds in hurt, anger or denial.
  • Looks to get even or prove “them” wrong or withdraws into themselves.

A man with no life purpose has a “fragile” ego and shuns away from any sort of feedback or constructive criticism.  He actually sees constructive criticism as a complaint or belittling.

A man without a purpose focused life hides from feedback…but gives plenty of it.  He uses this is a defense mechanism to divert constructive criticism from he is doing (if he’s doing anything at all).

A unfocused man sees constructive criticism as holding him back from his small and meaningless personal goals and feels any feedback will only derail him from his attempt for personal success.

Self Assessment

OK…looking at the above mental strength emotional characteristic for a man with a purpose driven life, take the below survey and see how well you’re doing… and please have the courage to be honest with yourself.

Constructive Criticism: The habit of taking constructive criticism to heart without getting angry, feeling rejected, or put down. Utilizing constructive feedback as an opportunity to maximize personal growth and development, measuring it against you strengths and weaknesses, and, then, developing a plan of action to improve the necessary attitudes, behaviors and skills.

Men, I’m sure by now you’re beginning to get a sense of where you are in Life.  Please remember there is not right or wrong place; it’s just where you are.  The question is, what are you going to do about it!

Are you courageous enough to take action and change?

If this post has raised some questions, consider investing in yourself, your vision and your life.  Take a look at The 2nd Passage for a way to put your power, passion and purpose into action and life a purposed driven life.

I’ll leave you this quote’s:

“In order to excel, you must be completely dedicated to your chosen sport. You must also be prepared to work hard and be willing to accept constructive criticism. Without one-hundred percent dedication, you won’t be able to do this:.  – Willie Mays

“Criticism, as it was first instituted by Aristotle, was meant as a standard of judging well; the chiefest part of which is to observe those excellencies which delight a reasonable reader” – John Dryden
