Loving Yourself For Self-Confidence
With the crossing of my last four-legged companion Kanani on Sunday I’ve been thinking a lot about love. You see, she exuded love to everyone and anyone she met.
She always brought a smile to a person’s face, no matter how grumpy they might seem.
I was thinking that really what Kanani was doing was helping us bring out what we already had inside of us, love. She just gave us permission to tap into it, feel it and express it with either a smile, giving her a hug or simply admiring her….she was an awesome creature.
An encounter with Kanani always left the person feeling different.
This insight got me thinking, since this emotion of love is inside all of us, how can we tap into it if there isn’t a Kanani around to help us?
You see, when you love yourself, the whole world is brighter. Each day is a gift and worth cherishing. As you go through your tasks for the day, your mind knows that you will accomplish all you set out to do. Everyone gets a smile and greeting even first thing in the morning. You ooze self-confidence when you love yourself the way you should.
However, if you do not love yourself, your day is quite a bit different. You dread each day as it dawns. As you approach your daily tasks, you are sure that mistakes will be made, and all will go wrong. Instead of smiling at coworkers, you are more likely to snarl at them. You do not act like you have any self-esteem or self-confidence.
Here are some tips on loving yourself
- First you must start being kinder to yourself. You are magnificence in human form with powerful qualities, ideas, personality traits and beliefs. Let them shine let them shine through. Sure it might take some mental strength to do instead of letting the negative side show through. Make a list and remind yourself about all your good qualities, then look at yourself in a mirror and verbalize them while staring yourself in your eyes.
- Be OK with and release issues from the past. That’s where they are, in the past and the only way you keep them alive or bring them into the present is by giving them attention. Instead, forgive and forget any mistakes you have made. Every mistake is feedback with a learning as its treasure. Look for the treasure and learn from the mistakes with the understanding that everyone makes them….this is simply part of being human.
- Write down the things you are accomplishing. This can cover fun, school or work activities. Once you have made your list, read it on a daily basis. Add to it regularly. This will instill you with a sense of pride and self-confidence and yes you will start increasing the love you feel for yourself.
- Take care of yourself physically each day. Eat healthy food, exercise and get enough rest, drink lots of water. These things keep your body in top working order. Your mind can be in a more positive mode when you feel healthy physically. The mind, body and soul are always connected, they are actually one. When you take care of your body, you are taking care of your mind and soul.
- Read a book on positive thinking, self-development or even a feel good novel. There are plenty on the market. This will help show you further how to keep from being negative. If you go the route of a feel good or adventure novel associated with the positive aspects of a character and begin to embody them. You can only love yourself when you are in a good mood. It’s impossible to love yourself when you are thinking of negative thoughts.
It is important to do the above steps to tap into the love you have inside for yourself. If you want to be successful in life, you must have self-confidence, and this is present when you have self-love.
It’s not always easy to turn your life around and with mental strength you can start by taking one step at a time. Slowly you will change how you feel about yourself. One morning you will wake up to a bright new day. You will look forward to every day with a smile on your face. Increase loving yourself today.
