What crosses your mind when you hear the word ‘lover’? Well, you might be thinking about many things but one thing for sure is that you might think about something romantic or Romeo and Juliet. Even though your perception could be true, the lover archetype has an expanded definition revolving around the part of us that loves and seeks to bond and connect. With the use of all their senses, the lover enjoys nice textures, sounds, smells and other aesthetics. Their objective is to create a lasting and meaningful relationship and when they don’t find the stimulation or beauty they deserve, they create it, either by becoming musicians or artists.

Lovers have unique ways of relating to their emotions, their bodies, other people as well as the universe and will always find unique ways of devoting to something or somebody. Their energy flows like water and express themselves freely without fear and have their own ways of expressing affection and gratitude and a very good example is the youth culture who refer to themselves as ‘fangirls’. They expect harmony among other people and when they can’t find it, they create it to experience the happiness they deserve, and this makes them great team builders.

A Deeper Look into The Lover Architype

Lovers are free spirited people and most of them are nature-seekers or explorers in their quest to freedom and they have fun-loving personalities. They blend in excellently with nature and free-spirits, bohemians, and spiritualists could be lovers at heart. The sensual, ethereal, and life, in general, is extraordinarily good and their notion can annoy other people with different perceptions about life.

Lovers become extremely terrified when left alone, when their passions are not reciprocated, and when rejected and the energy they use to express love shows how vulnerable they are to seduction, infatuation, falling in love, and are easily obsessed. When they are not on cloud nine, they feel heart-broken and cannot survive in disharmonious settings particularly if they are the cause. This means that any place of doom and gloom that underwhelms their love of life makes them uncomfortable.

When the lover archetype is alive in people, they are in touch with their feelings and care so much about how other people perceive them. They are determined to create good impressions to all people and they are quick to strategize in different situations in order to get the love they deserve. However, lovers who entirely focus on being attractive are usually materialistic or money focused. The self-esteem of a lover revolves around how successful they are at being admired, wanted, or loved. This means that they only care about pleasing others and they can do everything to be accepted, even if it puts them at high risks of losing their own identity and self-values.

Lovers have a part that connects and bonds with the universe. They care so much about everything and they find themselves as carers. When it comes to parenting, they express their tender feelings to their spouses and children and love them wholeheartedly. In other professions such as health care, they care about their patients and are devoted to improving their wellbeing. They also show extra care for animals and nature to ensure that they get happiness in everything that surrounds them.

The passion of lover goes beyond romantic interests and everything beautiful you see in this world has the effort of a lover behind it. For instance, the exquisite architectural buildings you see, the outstanding artistic works, and the different designs clearly show the bond lovers have with nature

It goes without saying that the word ‘lover’ is mostly associated with romance and sex. However, there are many types of love that people overlook, such as love for God, for friends, for family, and for life itself, and the lover archetype is dedicated to seeking after them all. The lover is the archetype of idealism, feeling, emotion, and sensuality. Just like a lover, sensuality is usually associated with sex but has another application. A sensual person is anyone that opens up and uses all their senses like tasting, touching, hearing, smelling, and seeing in all areas of their life.

When a man develops the energy of a lover’s archetype, he is filled with vigor and a burning force that connects him to the world. He has deep feelings of pain and joy and will always find means of managing underlying forces in their lives. They are like fountain tapped in the wellsprings of creative energy and a man with the lover archetype experiences perceptivity, premonitions and hunches more frequently than other men without this archetype.

A man with the lover archetype is skillful in everything he does and is determined to show empathy to other people and understands what it takes to get along well with other people from different classes and social standings. The lover archetype is all about love; they are open to experience feelings both bodily and emotional sensations and they enjoy all the pleasures that life can give. When it comes to food, drinks, exquisite art, they love it all and when it comes to gorgeous women, their enjoyment is beyond the reasonable doubt. This archetype enhances appetite but when hunger strikes, it opens you up to tender and vulnerable places where you can feel your loving connection with nature and find a more meaningful and purposeful life.

The lover is driven by the need for soul-rendering bliss, and that’s what makes it different from the other three mature masculine types (King, Magician, and warrior). Whereas the energy of the lover seeks to be boundless, the Warrior, Magician, and King’s archetype provide a man with both discipline and structure. In other words, the passion of the lover propels the three life forces which drive the lover’s energy towards healthy and worthy life goals.

The lover archetype can be found in rituals and myths and the Greek god Dionysus being portrayed as the god of art, wine, sex, passion, and merriment is a true example. According to his followers, this god was blamed when a man was overcome with emotions to the extent of appearing mad. Every year, a festival is held in his honor which is inspired by the lover archetype – lots of theater, lots of drinks, and lots of sex. If looking for a modern story signifying the lover archetype, don’t look far and wide as Zorba the Greek is a true example. He lives life to the fullest; he’s passionate about food and drinks, he lives freely, has an emotional life, he’s earthy and dances his heart out.
