Commitment And Desire – The Secret Formula For Success

Perhaps the two most important strengths a person must have to succeed, not simply survive, are desire and commitment. Desire and commitment far outweigh the most cultivated skills, fancy clothes, glowing references and an impressive list of client or contacts.

Desire – The burning passion for success: You must have goals, which provide strong incentive to fight your way through the tough parts of life and business. You are motivated by the increase in income, accomplishments and results that success brings and have a driving need to be the very best person as what you do!

Commitment – The willingness to do whatever it takes to achieve consistent personal success. You understand this means you are warrior. You will do what the average person and mediocre individuals don’t, even if you’re uncomfortable or afraid. You will always take the necessary risks, understanding that the results of your hard work will bring you closer to their ultimate goal and vision.

No matter what reputation precedes you, desire and commitment are two mental strengths to identify in yourself.

Like many of my other posts, this one has to do with mindset.

Often times, what I have seen separate successful people from the average person is simply understanding Commitment vs. Desire. I often hear clients talking about what they want. “I’d like to sell 100 e-books a month” or “I want to make six-figures” or “I want to be a top producer.” That’s great and all, because defining goals starts with our wants. But as the old adage says, a goal without a plan of action is a daydream.

To act like a warrior takes 100% commitment. It takes being BOUND to a course of action.

It takes being BOUND in order to push through the sometimes painful experiences that create much-needed growth on a personal and professional level.

It takes being willing to stretch the limits of your time, your money, you skill development, your emotions and your understanding of how life works.

It Takes Commitment

This is a time where it takes Commitment, not Desire, if you plan on living a life of a warrior, an impeccable hunter of personal power.

Desire is the fuel that drives us, that motivates us to take action. The stronger the desire the hungrier we are to work hard and make the necessary sacrifices to achieve our goals!

Think about the legends in a sport… any sport… What they all have in common is a “Burning Desire” to work hard and achieve their dreams!

Commitment is defined as: “the act of committing, the state of being committed, a pledge or promise; obligation”.

Again self-explanatory!

It is kind of hard to really have one without the other. If you really have a “Burning Desire” to achieve a goal, it is imperative that you make a commitment to yourself and to the realization of that goal or dream!

I personally like the words “vow, pledge or promise” to define commitment. You make a vow, pledge or promise that you will do whatever it takes to achieve your goal, you will make sacrifices, you will work hard, you will succeed, you will make mistakes along the way but you will learn from them and get better.

When we think about something we may want in our lives, whether it be a new car or a dream job, we are usually desiring that thing.

Take the “Ferrari Dream Car” for example. This car has appealed to many us so that we think we’ll do whatever it takes to finally satisfy this want. But, do we have the commitment to save $500,000 dollars for a car?

This is where the two concepts relate and become intertwined. Throughout our lives we desire things, most of which we cannot achieve.

But, when that one thing that we think we “need” comes along our character and commitment come into play. So is desire necessarily a good or a bad thing?

Depends on the desire.

Dreams are good for our lives and help us get through troubling times. However, having too much desire in our lives could inhibit more realistic goals and aspirations. Maybe the dream car has gotten in the way of providing for your family.

At this point desire has been taken too far. A happy and healthy family may be the top of your achievable desires and you have reached a point of contentment, meaning you acknowledge you have reached the limits of your goals.

This doesn’t mean you can’t continue to dream of the car or the job you have always wanted. Just that be realistic with your desires and your commitment to them. Be aware of what’s around you and realize when you have taken commitment too far.

Reach contentment in your live and accept that. In the end isn’t our only true desire to be happy with ourselves?
