The Never Ending Journey
Let me ask you…how many times when you’re in an uncomfortable situation and get caught up in fears, worry and doubts that you wish you were someone else?
Many times, we think and believe that if were someone else, i.e. John at work, Paula at the gym or your brother or sister, we’d be able to handle the situation better. When in reality that “someone” else feels the same way when they are in their “uncomfort zone.”
You spot an attractive person at an event talking to a few people. You think to yourself, “They look so calm, confident and have it all together.” But if you could climb into their mind you’d see a bunch of dark clouds of thoughts. You might just be amazed that they’re thinking “I wonder what they think of me?” “I hope I’m they like me.” “I know I should have worn something else.” And a myriad of other thoughts filled with doubt.
We see a successful young business entrepreneur and say “Wow, the world is their oyster…they can get anything they want!” Yet at home they stare in the mirror and murmur “My nose is too big… I wonder why my friends don’t return my calls…I hope my brother/sister sees me as a success.”
Isn’t it funny? We look at other people with awe and envy thinking they have it all together and wish we could trade places with them, when at the same time they’re doing the exact same thing!
Many times we are insecure of other people who themselves are insecure of other people. We often suffer from low self-esteem, lack of self-confidence and lose hope in personal development because we are living a life of quiet desperation.
Granted, this doesn’t happen all the time. But I’d say that if you really observe your thoughts, that several times a day some unsupportive thought will ooze its’ way into your conscious releasing its’ toxic waist into your life limiting your personal performance.
One key to personal empowerment is to find a coach that you trust and confide in. A good coach can assist you in examining your thoughts for validity and neutralizing the unsupportive ones.
Or you can find someone who you have faith in and open up to them. In this way, the other person will obviously know that you are interested in the process of personal development and help you as much as they can. Sure, this person might not have the personal development training and techniques that a certified coach has, but at least you’ll be taking action.
Then return the favor. I’ve found that I tend to “teach” what I need to learn. So, by assisting your friend you’ll actually be learning more about yourself.
If you feel uncomfortable with taking to friend and you can’t find a coach you can connect with – have your tried me yet 🙂 – then books are a great source.
I’ve love personal development books and have used them and other tools for my own personal development. I’ve always hoped that one great book or one great improvement course would turn my life around and change everything for the better.
It took me years to gradually understand the fact that for changes to happen, I needed to look within myself. It required that I become masters of my thoughts…the books are guides but I am the adventurer. It’s not up to the books for my development it’s up to me.
The only lasting way to change a person’s life and circumstances is to change their thoughts…to develop their mental strength. The truth is that thoughts ultimately affect your actions, character and then your circumstances.
At times we all have our insecurities. Nobody is perfect. Many times we wish we had better things, better features, better body parts, etc.
But life is full of opportunities to grow and develop. Sure at times we’ll have our insecurities, fear and doubt.
Nobody’s perfect.
And when you look at these occurrences as a chance to explore and find out more about who You really are you’ll be on ‘The Never Ending Journey’ of personal empowerment.
Personal development and loving yourself is not a matter of shouting to the whole world that you are perfect and you are the best. It’s the virtue of acceptance and contentment.
When we begin to enhance ourselves, we feel contented, happy and empowered.
