Servant Leadership: Warrior Mind Podcast # 159
This Warrior Mind Podcast is based on the post Servant Leadership and Personal Success.
The purpose of this warrior mind podcast is to remind you that at the heart of leadership is being of service. When you can be a servant leader your personal success is all but assured.
Servant leadership can be defined as a leadership philosophy which implies a comprehensive view of the quality of people, work and community spirit. It requires a spiritual understanding of identity, mission, vision and environment.
A servant leader is someone who is servant first, who has responsibility to be in the world, and so he/she contributes to the well-being of people and community. A servant leader looks to the needs of the people and asks themselves “How can I help to solve these problems and promote personal development?”

Scholars generally agree that these characteristics are central to the development of a servant-leader:
- Listening: Servant leadership puts the emphasis upon listening effectively to others.
- Empathy: Servant leadership needs to understand others’ feelings and perspectives.
- Healing: Servant leadership helps foster each person’s emotional and spiritual health and wholeness.
- Awareness: Servant leadership understands his or her own values and feelings, strengths and weaknesses.
- Persuasion: Servant leadership influences others through their persuasiveness.
- Conceptualization: Servant leadership needs to integrate present realities and future possibilities.
- Foresight: Servant leadership needs to have a well developed sense of intuition about how the past, present, and future are connected.
- Stewardship: Servant leadership is a steward who holds a group’s resources in trust for the greater good.
- Commitment to the growth of people: Servant leadership is responsible for serving the need of others.
- Building community: Servant leadership is to help create a sense of community among people.
As a result it has to be emphasized that these 10 characteristics are by no means exhaustive. They should not be interpreted as a certain manner to behave and they do not represent the best method to gain aims. Rather every person shall reflect, if these characteristics can be useful for his personal development.
