Personal Success – What Is It: Warrior Mind Podcast #161
This Warrior Mind Podcast is based on the post “Understanding Personal Success.”
The purpose of this warrior mind podcast is to help you understand and define what personal success is and what personal success is not.
Personal success is determined by you and only you! No other person on the face of this earth can tell you what success is or what it means. You are responsible to decide what success means to you — and to go after it with all you have.
There is a slight nuance, the mentally strong and peak performances define success a lot different from the average person.

Personal Success means different things to different people. To some, personal success might mean becoming famous, a millionaire, or just owning a house. Others may think that personal success is just a way of life; like feeling good. For me, personal success is achieving the short, medium, and long-term goals I have set for myself.
Obviously, the only way one will know they are a “successful person” is if they have achieved some type of goal. I personally don’t think that just making a million dollars makes you a success, but someone else might.
I think that personal success is a balancing act of the areas of life: work, money, family, friends, and leisure. One should never give up any one area. However, overindulging in any one area can have severe impacts on the others.
Having a balanced lifestyle is what success is all about. It ensures that you have variety in life. It will keep you motivated to learn new things about different parts of your life and ensure that you set new goals throughout your life.
Define Personal Success for Yourself.
People define personal success in many ways. Several successful people use these words:
- Success is defined by who we are, what we believe in, and what we think it means to be successful. For some it is money; for others it could be relationships, family, jobs, religion, or education. I believe that success is reaching my own personal dreams. I’m not done with my dreams, but know that I have been successful so far because I’ve worked toward my goals regardless of my disability (college student who is deaf).
- Success is possessing the capability for self-determination. Self-determination is the ability to decide what I want to do with my life, and then to act on that decision (high school student who is blind).
- A successful life is one where I can be actively engaged in creative activities that make a contribution to the lives of others. Success is a kind of by-product and NOT an end in itself! (professor who is blind)
- To me, having a successful life is being able to do things independently for myself, and not always have someone there to do things for me. It’s achieving my goals on my own terms and at my own pace (high school student with a mobility and orthopedic impairment).
