Objective of this Mental Strength Tip on Motivation

To help you understand that logic drives strategy and tactics and motivation drives emotions.

Let’s Get Started:

Achievement and success are subjects I have spoken about many times over the years, because people are eternally curious about what makes for success.

What is your compelling reason to succeed?

Questions to Uncover Beliefs about a Compelling Reason/Why:

  • Do you believe emotion is a better motivation than logic?
  • How does emotion fit into your business?
  • Is it possible to connect your deepest emotional desires to your personal success?

Unsupportive Beliefs about a Compelling Reason/Why:

  • There is no place for emotion in business and personal success.
  • Bring your head to your business and your heart at home.
  • It’s not the reason why that matters, it’s the how.

Mental Strength Beliefs about a Compelling Reason/Why:

  • Logic steers strategy and emotion fuels motivation.
  • They why is more important than the how.
  • They why is often more difficult than the how.

Outrageous Questions:

  • If you explained your vision to an investor, would he be motivated to invest in your dream?
  • Have you invested the time and effort to uncover your hidden motivation?
  • Based on your past results, are you more of a visionary or a daydreamer?

Reflective Questions:

  • What was the time in your life when you felt most empowered, like you could accomplish anything?
  • What values would you be willing to fight for? To die for?
  • What accomplishment, if you were able to succeed, would make your life complete?

Mental Strength Coaching:

Creating a compelling reason for change is probably one of the most overlooked and underutilized steps in the process of motivation and continuous improvement. Whether the objective is physical, financial or career, most people fail to adequately create a compelling reason for change and this is a fatal mistake.

Without a compelling reason motivation to push through the tough times will waiver.

Final Thought

Change requires people to take action, to do things differently, to think and behave in different ways, and even the most straightforward change will almost always cause anxiety and discomfort, at least at the outset. In addition, many individuals will have a large amount of complacency to overcome.

Past success and signs of excess can cause people to believe that change isn’t really necessary. Too many times the inner call for change is interpreted as fantasy that will pass in time, especially if it is received during a time of turbulence.

There will always be skepticism about change; it could be in the form of anxiety, complacency, apathy, entitlement, or a host of other entrenched beliefs and behaviors. The bottom line is this; leaders must create a case for change that is strong enough to cause them to use their mental strength and move past their anxieties and make personal sacrifices and choices that are consistent with the future vision.
