Mindless and Mindlessness – The Default Setting Of The Mind

Mindlessness is devastation. It involves acting without the concern (mindless) for the consequences that we may face, or the outcome that we may experience. It is an act in which we fail to possess control over our thoughts and the individual intellect that we possess. It is a process in which we fail to engage with the experiences that we are subjected to in our daily lives. It is the failure to challenge ourselves intellectually.

Mindless – The Default Setting

To be mindless is considered to be the “Default Setting” or our minds; however, by understanding this setting and the functionality of our minds, we have the potential to control our mental functions so that those thoughts and situations –or, the lack thereof – that result in the meaningless qualities of being frantic and distracted are eliminated so that we may be more open to the experiences and situations that are ever-present within our lives.

The mind possesses numerous scripts that are pre-programmed. These scripts actually guide how we think and the actions that we perform in numerous situations. As a result of this fact, it is common to find that humans often act in such a way that it seems as if they are on, what many refer to, as “autopilot” or mindless.

Many researchers believe that we have a type of built-in psychology about us that is hardwired as a result of the evolutionary process. It is believed that our ancestors and their experiences, and the choices that they made could have an unconscious-based influence on the actions that we perform in our day to day lives and the thoughts that we experience. This concept is referred to as being, “mindless”.

While it is true that we may shift the blame to our ancestors for the ways that we believe and how we act, it is much more beneficial if we take responsibility for our lives and shift from being mindless to having a high level of mindfulness.

When we engage in the act of being mindless, our minds are swarmed by an ever-present swirl of judgments, beliefs, remarks, and thoughts that have the ability to create a barrier to our personal growth. The debris that clutters the mind then separates us from that which happens in our lives. It causes us to lose sight of the experiences that we are faced with and what those experiences are supposed to teach us.

Our attention is constantly focused on the mundane and strays away from that which is truly beneficial for our self-growth and our self-esteem. Being mindless steals our joy, our happiness. We should strive to increase our mindfulness so that we increase our happiness and we are able to grow and take personal responsibility for our lives.

One of the most beneficial ways to go from being mindless to generating a high level of mindfulness is to practice the art of meditation. In doing so, we are training our mind to be attentive and we are creating thoughts that will benefit us on numerous levels.

In most instances, we all feel as if we are the owners of our minds; however, if we fail to train our minds, the people, situations, and events that we encounter in our lives have the potential to control our minds. This, too, is defined as being mindless. Though many scientists and doctors have seen the mind through imaging techniques and have studied the mind, they have found that it is impossible to actually know what the mind is thinking.

As a result, it is a known assumption that we have a low understanding of the total functionality of the mind. We do know, though, that by practicing meditation and other activities to increase our mindfulness that we have the ability to better control the attention of the mind. By purposely ensuring that the mind stays attentive on that which is positive, we, as humans, we experience more positivity throughout our lives.

It has been established that our minds often seem to possess control over us, rather than we, possessing control over it. However, by becoming aware of this fact, we are shifting from being mindless to experiencing mindfulness. We should meditate and strive to compel the mind, drive the mind, and urge the mind in ways that we deem to be fit, rather than allowing the mind to compel us, drive us, and urge us in ways that it deems fit.

This is the true act of taking responsibility and making a change that will benefit us in a positive manner. We have the potential to reshape the mind and condition it in such a way that we are able to live life in the most positive and productive ways possible. By making a choice – TODAY – to shift from being mindless to increasing your mindfulness, you are taking the very first step in the productivity and positive for your life – as a whole.
