Mental Strength Training And Personal Development Plans

Why is mental strength training essential? personal development plan

Because your mind holds the key to your happiness and success and you can train it to think the way you want it to.

Someone once said, “We are what we think about”. That’s why we can create mental barriers to our progress simply by the way we think. We can remove these barriers by training our mind to think in a positive way, by developing a positive mental attitude. The great challenge is to maintain that attitude and that’s why continuous mind training is important.

Positive Thinking

Positive thinking is the basic element you need to a barrier-free mental attitude. It was made famous by Norman Vincent Peale in his book, “The Power of Positive Thinking“. He wrote another book filled with positive thinking stories that showed how people changed their lives when they changed their attitude.

People changed their lives dramatically simply by deciding they would change their attitude from negative to positive. Instead of giving in to self-pity and defeatism they decided to look on the bright side of life and expect good things to happen to them.

Positive Thinking Works

It’s been many years since that book was written but its principles still apply.

Since that time a lot of research has gone into the psychology of maintaining a healthy, positive attitude. We now know positive thinking does work and has an uplifting and beneficial effect on most areas of our lives.

Positive people are generally happier and healthier than their negative counterparts. They expect good things to happen and this attracts positive results. Positive thinking provides the fertile soil for the seeds of your personal development plans to grow. Without it, they will wither and die.

How to Maintain a Positive Mental Attitude

One of the challenges is to maintain this positive attitude. That is not so easy when life keeps throwing one challenge after another. It is easy to tire of the constant effort to fight the frustration and disappointment.

That’s why you need some form of mind training so you will be mentally strong enough to deal with these issues. It is rather like keeping your body fit and well by doing regular exercise and feeding it the right food.

Keeping physically fit and well is a good analogy because it works best when it becomes a part of your life. Mental strength training works in exactly the same way.

Practice it daily and it soon becomes a part of you so that this is your predominant way of thinking.

Here are some things you can do to train your mind:

  1. Read inspirational stories
  2. Have a book of inspirational quotes by your bed and read them last thing at night
  3. When you wake of a morning set your frame of mind for the day by deciding to be happy and positive. If you are really down, read some inspirational quotes to get you going
  4. Be grateful for what you have and for what you are
  5. Concentrate on your strengths
  6. Allow yourself to feel good when you do things well. Congratulate yourself for a job well done
