Mental Strength Tip #26 – Personal Success and Delayed Gratification
Achieving peak human performance and personal power begins with a mental strength mindset and empowering beliefs. Reaching your personal goals starts in the mind and finishes with peak performance…taking massive action.
This is one in a series of mental strength life coaching tips to help start your week of strong so that you can reach your peak performance and personal success.
I take one subject and run though a brief overview of it, then ask some very direct questions. The intention of these ‘sessions’ is for you to write the questions in a success journal reflect on them and answer them.
This series of posts is for YOU! If I’m not able to coach you personally one-on-one, I want you to at least get the benefit of “virtual” coaching.
Objective of this Mental Strength Tip:
To help you develop the mental strength habit of delayed gratification and to realize that every positive action moves you closer to your personal goals and personal success.
Let’s Get Started:
What’s the meaning of compensation? What do think of when rewards and compensation come to mind? When a person is in their personal power they exercise the mindset of “doing” before being paid. It doesn’t matter if you’re a custodian or an elite athlete; the idea of delayed gratification needs to be kept in the forefront of your mind.
Questions to Uncover Beliefs about Mental Strength Thinking:
- Have you ever felt as though you were putting our more effort than you were being paid for?
- Do you put more effort into activities that offer greater compensation?
- Do you believe your level of compensation should be dictating your efforts?
Unsupportive Beliefs about Delayed Compensation
- I do exactly what I get paid to do…nothing more, nothing less.
- I work at the same pace as my co-workers; otherwise I’ll be criticized and picked on.
- I’m overworked and underpaid.
Mental Strength Beliefs about Delayed Compensation
- I have mental strength work habits whether I’m saving someone’s life or washing the dog.
- Compensation has nothing to do with my work habits.
- Compensation always catches up to my performance.
Outrageous Questions:
- Are you afraid of putting in more effort then you’re being paid for?
- What’s the worst thing that could happen if you put in more time and effort than you are compensated for?
- Are you afraid your average work ethic will go unnoticed?
Reflective Questions:
- Do you believe you’re underpaid?
- What would it take for you to believe that compensation always catches up to performance?
- What would you have to change in order to improve your personal performance regarding the compensation you’re receiving?
Mental Strength Coaching:
Take an inventory of where you currently stand in this topic. If you’re part of the average thinking and the masses, begin the process of gradually shifting your belief toward the fact that compensation has nothing to do with putting in peak personal performance. Performance comes first, and then accurate compensation will always follow!
Final Thought
Unfortunately many reading this post have are programmed with limiting and average thinking beliefs, and most likely are hanging around people who help reinforce those beliefs…birds of a feather you know. This is how they get support for their limiting beliefs and make “sense” of their word. It’s all they know because they’ve never had exposure to a mental strength coach that will walk them through shifting their beliefs. Average and limiting thinking and beliefs have been around for many years. Remember that moving to a place of mental strength thinking is a process of personal growth.
