Mental Strength Habits Of A Purpose Focused Man – 8

Welcome back the continuation of this series entitled “Mental Strength Habits Of A Purpose Focused Man”

I hope you’ve been enjoying and getting something out of the information.

To recap, I’ve been breaking down 21 habits, one by one, of men with a purpose driven life.  These habits are in 5 categories;

  • Mental
  • Physical
  • Emotional
  • Financial
  • Spiritual

If this is your first time here the link back to “Mental Strength Habits Of A Purpose Focused Man – Part I.

These posts are all about assisting men.

There is no “mid-life crisis” for men…there is none…well generally speaking.

What I think a “mid-life crisis” for men is, is a lack of focus and purpose.  When we lose our purpose, we lose our focus.  When we lose our focus we feel lost.  And many men attempt to find themselves in unproductive behaviors.

The information in these posts and the goal of my private intensive, The 2nd Passage, is to help men realize that they do have a mission and purpose in life.  And once they find it they can live a life of power, purpose, passion and perseverance!

My hope is that through these series of posts and The 2nd Passage Intensive, I will help men who, admittedly or not, are experiencing a mid-life emptiness and guide them back to manhood and step into their masculinity…without becoming a jerk.

In the last post we started to look at the emotional habits of a highly focused purpose driven man.  Here is the third:

Capacity to Develop Warm & Lasting Relationships

Purpose Focused Man

  • Sees people as being good and have intrinsic worth
  • Takes time to get to know someone
  • A sense of human responsibility for and an ability to respond to the needs of others that are close to them
  • Capacity and desire to establish intimate  relationships with his spouse, children and family, relationship built upon love, respect and mutual understanding
  • NOTE: if someone achieved all their material goals but neglected their family they were not considered a high achiever in the studies
  • Maintains a balance between material goals and family relationships
  • Values the art of listening, with both mind and heart, by listening the high achiever expresses wealth they sense in others.

A man with a purpose driven life understands that relationships are a gift and worth more than any amount of money and he treats they as on his cherished ‘possessions.’

A purpose driven man will really listen to what someone is saying.  He knows that to listen deeply he will get to know this person and understand them and then trust them.  This is trust that allows him to ask for help when he needs it or offer assistance when he sees’s it is needed.

Relationships are the corner-stone to all his personal success, whether it be in business or personal.  Without strong relationships a man cannot fully experience his purpose in life.

A man with a purpose driven life measures his wealth by his relationships.

No Purpose, Unfocused Man

  • Fighting personal and personality battles
  • Views people and relationships as being disposable
  • Trying to get even with those they perceive have hurt them
  • Have to get the last word in
  • Thinking about they’re going to say, instead of listening to the other person

A man without focus or purpose in life view’s relationships as stepping-stones to use in reaching his personal goals.

He’s thoughts are “how can this person help me get what I want?” Never considering what he can do in return.

When he is in a conversation he’s thinking about what he can say next and never really “hears” what the other person is saying.

A man without a purpose in life uses relationships the same way as he uses most things, as being disposable.

OK…time for some self-reflection.

Take a look at the statement below and rate yourself.  And remember be honest, it’s the only way for you to make progress towards being a man with a purposed focused life.

Capacity to Develop Warm & Lasting Relationships: The habit of viewing others as possessing intrinsic worth and goodness. Taking the time to listen to others and give emotional nourishment. Valuing the closeness of spouse, children, and family. Holding the value that no success can compensate for failure in valued relationships.

1                            2                            3                            4                            5

              Never                   Seldom               Sometimes        Often                   Always

Please guys, tell me you’re beginning to get a sense you’re beginning to see how important a purpose focused life is? Again, there is not right or wrong place; it’s just where you are.  The question is, what are you going to do about it!

Are you courageous enough to take action and change?

If this post has raised some questions, consider investing in yourself, your vision and your life.  Take a look at The 2nd Passage for a way to put your power, passion and purpose into action and life a purposed driven life.

I’ll leave you this quote:

“Strange is our situation here upon earth. Each of us comes for a short visit, not knowing why, yet sometimes seeming to divine a purpose. From the standpoint of daily life, however, there is one thing we do know: that man is here for the sake of other men.” — Albert Einstein
