The Five Spheres of Whole Life Performance

When we look at performing at our potential we need to closely examine the five spheres that make-up our life.

If anyone of this is “out of balance” we will experience frustration, boredom, disenchantment and decrease in our enthusiasm for life.

Whole Life Performance

Below are the Five Spheres and their characteristic. Pay close attention to the positive aspects of these areas, as these are essential to achieve whole life performance.

Mental Sphere

Mental health goes much deeper than just acting normal when it comes to whole life performance. Instead, you should analyze the extent to which you develop your realism, self-awareness, and self-dignity is the way to view the state of your mental health. Inadequate development in these areas of your being will dampen your enjoyment of life.

You attain self-dignity by carrying out your responsibilities and obligation in life with a pleasant disposition. Living a responsible life without lightheartedness makes life overly serious. On the other hand, being lighthearted without fulfilling your obligations is irresponsible. It takes the combination of being responsible and lighthearted to meet a high level of self-dignity.

You achieve self-awareness by liking who you are as a person, while striving to improve your actions and thoughts on a daily basis. However, you are too defensive and proud when you like who you are without acknowledging and improving upon your weaknesses.

You also should not overly focus on your shortcomings without self-acceptance, as this can lead to low self-esteem. It takes a balance of self-acceptance and self-improvement to attain effective self-awareness.

You attain realism through developing a positive outlook for your future while actively working on any possible issues that could occur. Being unrealistic in your optimism without understanding the issues that could occur could lead to unnecessary disappointment.

It is too worrisome, though, to focus only on the possible issues that could pop up without realizing the positive things that also will happen in the future. You only obtain realism with the right balance of mindfulness and optimism.

Financial Sphere

Having financial health means more than the amount of money in your bank accounts. Instead, this is about how enjoyable and effectively you earn an income, along with the integrity you use in dealing with your money matters. One example of this how wisely you budget your income. Neglect in any of these things will hurt your financial situation.

You attain a strong sense of purpose by working diligently at a job that you enjoy. Diligently working without enjoyment makes you dread your workday instead of look forward to it. However, you become overly fussy if you never work at something you dislike. Therefore, you need to have both enjoyment and diligence with your work in the right balance to create purpose.

You attain financial success and integrity by earning and handling your finances in a fair, honest and equitable manner. Achieving your financial well-being at the expense of other people is shrewd. Dealing with other fairly without watching over your own finances is overly compromising. You need to combine your pursuit of money with honesty to attain financial integrity.

Being savvy financially includes investing and saving for the future on top of spending wisely in the present to create a quality life for you and yours. If you spend too much time-saving and investing rather than spending some of it, though, you are miserly.

However, if you spend too much without saving or investing, you are squandering your money. Therefore, you much have a reasonable balance between saving and investing, and spending to enhance your whole life performance.

Physical Sphere

You should not depend solely on the doctor for your physical health. Instead, you need to develop of lifestyle that nourishes and rejuvenates your body in the correct manner to attain physical health. The doctor cannot accomplish these things for you or the problems that can arise if abuse or neglect your health. It takes the right amount of exercise and rest to rejuvenate your body.

Physically exerting your body without enough rest will tire your body, and resting without enough physical activity will make your body feel lethargic and unhealthy.

You must manage energy and stress both at the same time to maintain your body’s vitality. Try not to exhaust your body with excessive work, exercise, toxic chemicals, or sexual activity. Learn to recognize what stresses your mind and body and deal with these triggers quickly before you become overwhelmed.

Eat fresh, healthy foods to provide nutrients to your body and do not smoke, or overindulge in sweets or alcohol. Also, make sure always to eat in moderation.

Relationship Sphere

It takes respect, mutual benefit, and trust to build healthy relationships. Relationships can deteriorate quickly when these things are not present or strong enough and this leads to stress, unhappiness and even ill-health.

You build healthy relationships by trusting other people without any hard feelings or grudges. You are naive when you forgive those who betray you without examining their trustworthiness first. However, if you hang on to resentment or assume people will harm you, then you are too mistrusting. You only achieve trust when you have a combination of being discerning and forgiving.

Respect is earned within relationships through admiring the positives in others while being able to be forthright and honest with them. Just saying pleasant things to other people and withholding the truth makes you insincere.

However, telling the people too much negatives and not enough positives makes you too blunt. Only when you have a blend of acknowledgement and directness do you develop a respectful relationship.

Through providing support and help for others while keeping your own needs in mind, you build mutual benefit. If you neglect your needs while taking care of those of others, you are self-sacrificing, but this could lead to resentment on your part.

However, if only take care of your needs and ignore the needs of others, you are self-centered. You build health relationships with the right amount of self-care and care of others to form mutual benefit.

Integral Sphere

Your integral health has to do with your inner being that is crucial to your whole life performance having purpose and meaning.

Wisdom (Knowledge) is a tool that helps you develop your beliefs. It does not determine your beliefs. Using various resources for wisdom, you begin to reflect on what you believe in with your life. This leads to an understanding of your own life and can further your wisdom.

If you rely on various resources for knowledge without reflecting on that knowledge and applying to your life, you are too reverent. You lack humility when you only reflect on your inner being without using outside resources for knowledge and this hampers your ability to have wisdom. Only when you combine reflecting and learning with applying do you attain true wisdom.

External and internal peace is attained when you live with morals and accept other people for who they truly are. Being too set on your morals or ethical standards while being non-accepting of others makes you a righteous snob. However, having acceptance of others while having no morals or ethical principles shows your need of acceptance and you can become lost easily.

Integral fulfillment and clarity is attained through finding your own contentment as you work to improve life for you and those around you. When you accept your life without feeling empowered to change circumstances when needed, you are being too passive.

However, to struggle too much to change those things that are unchangeable just because you are unsatisfied makes you egotistical. You attain fulfillment in your whole life performance with the right combination of feeling contentment and empowerment.
