It’s Your Decision To …
I recently attended a great seminar by Rory Miller, author of “Meditations on Violence.” I’ll say right off that the book is not what you may think it is and either is Rory.
The seminar focused on self-defense, social and asocial violence and what to look out for in protecting yourself. This was the first seminar I have attended that covered this topic (self-defense) so thoroughly.
One key message that ran though the seminar and in his book is that when/if you’re severely attacked and heavily wounded and die immediately, it was your decision to die.
This might sound cold, inhuman and outrageous…but hold on a second
We were shown videos (you can find them on Youtube) we’re predators were shot numerous times and stayed alive (without being on drugs). We were also shown videos of victims that willed themselves to stay alive after being brutally attacked.
The question was this….what did these people (the ones that survived) possess that we didn’t? The answer…nothing!
The message rang crystal clear! It was, in the words of Winston Churchill, “Never, never, never, never give up.”
Think about this…if you give up on a non-life threatening project after three, four or even five times, what are you going doing if you ever get attack?
On the other hand, imagine what could be accomplished if you take the position “I will not die…no matter what” In this case the word “die” can represent quit, stop or any other form of giving up.
You must develop a warrior mindset to live and succeed!
Sure it takes considerable amounts of mental strength at first. But if you put together a mental strength program that stretches your boundaries everyday it will become easier. Not only will this improvement in your mindset help in your business and personal success, it will serve you tremendously in the event you ever find yourself the recipient of an act of violence.
Try this exercise…think back to one project or task that you started but didn’t finish. Remember…I said only one J
Got it?
Great!
Now think about what happened when you quit. Wasn’t really easier to give-up then to continue? Come on…if it wasn’t, you would have completed the task. I know there a myriad of excuses why you couldn’t finish. But the bottom line is…it was your decision!
It’s your decision to quit and it’s your decision to succeed!
Any excuse for not succeeding at your goal is routed in limiting beliefs. There are others in worse circumstances then yours that have succeeded so why not you? This is a very bitter pill for many to swallow. However, the ones with the warrior mindset will dig deep, face their demons of limiting beliefs and conquer them head-on!
What if you don’t know your limiting beliefs?
Well, they’re staring you in the face every time you make an excuse for why you can’t accomplish your goal. Some convenient excuses are:
- The economy is bad
- I don’t have a job
- I’m too old
- I’m too young
- I don’t know how
- And there a way too many more to list here
Here’s the thing with excuses…they only satisfy the person who’s making them. For every excuse you have turn it into a reason why must succeed.
Remember that excuses stem from limiting beliefs. When you turn the excuse into a reason you are programming your unconsciousness to ignore the limiting belief and instead replace it with an empowering belief.
Once you have replaced enough limiting beliefs you’ll automatically being to ask “How can I..?” The excuses simply won’t appear and instead you’ll be operating with warrior mindset.
