How To Achieve The Impossible

We always try to imagine the best, imagine great aspirations. But often these dreams remain dreams and never transform into reality. The dust of time covers them up and they simply fade away.

Most boys have dreamed of hitting the game-winning homer or catching the winning touchdown pass in the Super Bowl.  Many girls have imagined becoming a homecoming queen, a movie start or even president of the United States.

I think at one time or another we’ve all thought about what it would be like to hit the lottery or even simply live a life of happiness and fulfillment.

At some level our dreams are supposed to manifest, why else would we have them? But when they don’t come true, the story of life takes a sad turn. It drains our enthusiasm and vibe to live life. We continue to live a boring life just for the sake of living.

The biggest obstacle in setting personal goals is the thought of impossibility. Often people think that it is just not possible to achieve their goals. This could be because they have never achieved this type of goal or they’ve never heard anyone else reaching success with that goal.

Many people feel stuck because the life they want to live is an impossibility.

Let me ask you, have you considered if individuals and scientists has this same thinking we wouldn’t have all the wonderful inventions that we have today?

Scientists were unwilling to accept that bumblebee can fly. But the bumblebee didn’t know it wasn’t supposed to fly so it flew!

Your personal goal doesn’t create the struggle; rather, it is some self-imposed limiting belief that is holding you back from realizing your dream. Aim high, set a goal that you think is impossible and you must just hit it.  Or you may come very close and that’s still a good thing.

Here’s a saying that might help, “Shoot for the eagle, bag the pheasant and you won’t eat crow.”

One way to see the possibilities in your personal goals is to make them specific and clear and then breakdown the action items need to obtain the goal.

Make a list of your goals. Write down the goals that ‘you think you can achieve’ on a piece of paper. List down all that comes into your mind.

Then take another piece of paper and title this one “Goals I think are impossible”.  Write things that are impossible to dream about for you. Now, set out to find someone(s) who have achieved this goal.  Write their name down next to the “impossible” goal. Finally, write on the very top of this list “What one can do, I can do” and put this up somewhere you can see and read it every day.

Then every day read this list out loud.

Read the goal and then repeat “what one can do, I can do.” Start to take action towards this goal.  Even if it’s the tiniest of steps, do something small every day.

If you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed that you can’t achieve your goal might I suggest watching “The Impossible.”

The Impossible is the story of a tourist family in Thailand caught in the destruction and chaotic aftermath of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.

English physician Maria Bennet (Watts), her Scottish husband Henry (McGregor) and their sons Lucas (Holland), Tomas and Simon are on Christmas holiday in Khao Lak, Thailand, in 2004. The tsunami triggered by that year’s Indian Ocean earthquake floods the area with overwhelming destructive power.

Maria and Lucas are swept away from the others by the tsunami and barely survive; Maria is severely injured but they find a displaced toddler named Daniel in the wreckage. They are later found by locals who transfer them to a local hospital where Maria encourages Lucas to occupy himself assisting in any way he can, which leads to him searching for various strangers for their relatives at the facility.

Due to a mix-up, the hospital staff believes she has died and takes Lucas to a tent where children without families are being held. Maria has surgery on her injured chest and is later reunited with Lucas, but remains in a highly fragile medical state waiting to deemed fit for further surgery on her leg wound.

Elsewhere, Henry, Tomas and Simon had survived the tsunami themselves together, although the father is injured. Henry places the children into a vehicle supposed to take tourists to a safe place while he remains behind to search for Maria and Lucas.

Ultimately further injured while failing to find them, he arrives at the evacuation point, only to discover that Tomas and Simon have been sent elsewhere. Communication facilities are scarce, but a tourist named Karl, who was also separated from his family by the tsunami, lends Henry his cell phone to contact his relatives and volunteers to accompany Henry to look for Maria and Lucas.

Henry and Karl search for their families in various places before they arrive at the hospital where Maria and Lucas are. The vehicle carrying Tomas and Simon stops outside the hospital; the family eventually reunites. Maria has surgery which she survives and the following day the family boards an ambulance airplane to Singapore arranged by their insurance company for further treatment for Maria.

After completing things you thought you can accomplish, you will be left with things you feel are impossible. When you reach the header for impossible things, you will realize that now the impossible would seem possible.

After watching this everything will seem possible to you!

Doing the impossible requires hard work and without it you will end up in bitter disappointment. Setting goals unwisely can be the worst mistake.

If you would have told someone that man would land on moon in the previous century he/she would think you are mad. But the constant perseverance yielded in taking man to the moon.

Like Edison said that it is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. The statement holds true in every situation. So continue to dream big and aim for higher stars while keep on putting the best of your efforts in trying. As you do this, you will see how ‘impossible’ will start becoming ‘possible’.

To obtain your personal goals you must put in hard work and take massive action and soon you’ll see your dream getting closer and closer to fulfillment. And as you see that things you believed to be impossible are actually possible, the sky is the limit.
